Heat olive oil in sauce pan and saute onion and garlic over medium heat until soft and fragrant.
Add the ketchup ,brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, whiskey, water, ground mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne pepper.Stir and bring mixture to a simmer.
Add the cherries andsalt and pepper to taste. Continue to cook over low heat for 20 minutes, or until sauce thickens.
Once thickened, remove sauce from heat and puree in food processor until smooth.
