Passamaquoddy Wild Blueberry Co.
Headquartered in Columbia Falls, Maine, the Passamaquoddy Wild Blueberry Company (PWBC) is owned, managed, and staffed by Passamaquoddy Tribe members. The Passamaquoddy were among the first to harvest wild blueberries and have been doing so for more than one thousand years, making these fruits an essential part of our diet, economy, and culture. The Passamaquoddy Wild Blueberry Co. embodies this long tradition and ongoing commitment to wild blueberry farming and its cultural significance, which has helped sustain the Passamaquoddy People....
The Passamaquoddy Wild Blueberry Company provides full-time, year-round, and seasonal jobs for Passamaquoddy Tribe members. Through the collective efforts of these individuals and with the support of the Tribe, PWBC has independently produced millions of pounds of low-bush, wild blueberries year after year since 1981. PWBC is on a journey to share its unique history and tradition, while expanding into producing premium, small-batch products that will delight palates worldwide.
"PWBC is owned by the Passamaquoddy Tribe, who has a millennia-old tradition of hand harvesting wild blueberries to use as a dye, a food source, and for medicinal purposes. The Tribe purchased 2,000 acres of wild blueberry barrens in the 1980s and PWBC now manages those barrens, offering year-round and seasonal jobs to Tribe members. Profits from the company are either reinvested in the company's future or distributed to the two Passamaquoddy Tribe communities in Maine. Woliwon (thank you) for your support."
